Deputy General Manager

JOB SUMMARY:

The Deputy General Manager (DGM) is responsible for providing strategic leadership, business direction, and operational oversight for a portfolio of companies within an assigned industry cluster. The role drives sustainable growth, profitability, operational excellence, and value creation by aligning business strategies with the Group’s overall vision and objectives. The DGM partners closely with business leaders and executive management to strengthen organizational capabilities, optimize performance, identify growth opportunities, and ensure sound governance, risk management, and compliance across all assigned businesses.

Depending on the assigned portfolio, the Deputy General Manager shall oversee one of the following business clusters:

Cluster A – Infrastructure, Industrial & Technical Services

  • Engineering & Construction
  • Logistics & Transportation
  • Energy & Power Generation

Cluster B – Consumer, Resource & Service Businesses

  • Agri-business
  • Hospitality & Food

The Deputy General Manager is expected to balance strategic planning with operational execution, foster collaboration among business units, champion innovation and continuous improvement, and build high-performing leadership teams that deliver exceptional business results while upholding the organization’s values and corporate governance standards.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Business Leadership

  • Develop and execute long-term business strategies aligned with the Group’s corporate direction.
  • Drive business expansion, diversification, and market competitiveness.
  • Identify new business opportunities and strategic partnerships.
  • Lead organizational transformation initiatives.

Financial Performance & Profitability

  • Achieve revenue, profitability, and EBITDA targets.
  • Manage business investments and capital expenditures.
  • Optimize operating costs while maintaining service excellence.
  • Ensure sound financial governance and risk management.

Operational Excellence

  • Drive operational efficiency across Engineering, Logistics, and Energy businesses.
  • Improve productivity, asset utilization, and service delivery.
  • Standardize operational processes and performance metrics.
  • Promote continuous improvement and operational innovation.

Project & Asset Management

  • Ensure successful delivery of construction projects within scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Optimize utilization of logistics assets and fleet.
  • Ensure reliability and efficiency of power generation facilities.
  • Monitor project portfolio performance.

Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance

  • Champion a culture of safety across all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations and industry standards.
  • Maintain quality management systems.
  • Drive environmental sustainability initiatives.

Customer & Stakeholder Management

  • Build strong relationships with clients, regulators, contractors, suppliers, and investors.
  • Enhance customer satisfaction and service reliability.
  • Represent the Cluster in strategic business engagements.

Organizational Leadership

  • Develop high-performing leadership teams.
  • Drive succession planning and talent development.
  • Promote accountability and performance culture.
  • Strengthen employee engagement.

Corporate Governance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with Group policies.
  • Manage enterprise risks.
  • Protect organizational assets and reputation.
  • Promote ethical business practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Management, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent is highly preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum of 10 years progressive leadership experience.
  • At least 5 years in senior executive or general management roles.
  • Extensive experience managing multiple business units or profit centers.
  • Experience in Engineering, Construction, Logistics, Energy, Infrastructure, or related industries.
